Greg Chang began dragonboating in 1996 with the New York Rebels. The following year, he joined the Metro Athletic Dragons (MAD), where he gained the majority of his racing experience. Over the course of several years, his role expanded from paddler to steersperson, to coaching and eventually part of the management team. In 2003 he began gaining experience in dragonboating from the festival perspective, assisting in several local festivals and completing an officiating course held by the United States Dragonboat Federation in 2004. He also held the position of Vice President for the Eastern Regional Dragonboat Association in 2004 with a focus on media and race committees. He no longer serves as an officer but is still active in the ERDBA and promoting dragonboating. In 2004 he started his own dragonboat company and began providing dragonboat rentals in 2006 to meet the needs of the expanding dragonboat community in NYC. Greg semi-retired from competition to co-found the Azumi Dragons and take on the role of head coach. His current athletic focus and training is in triathlons. We say current cause we expect him to return to competitive dragonboating as he has yet to compete and earn any cherished metal in the masters and grandmasters division.
Norman Chan first ventured into the sport of dragon boating back in the year 2000 as a coach and steersperson for the American Red Cross Youth Dragon Boat team. He then joined the JPMorganChase Dragon Boat Team and fulfilled many roles including paddler, steersperson, and coach. Norman has competed in races all over North America including San Francisco, Montreal, and Tampa. Seeking a greater challenge, Norman co-founded the Azumi Dragons in 2007 in an effort to create a team to compete on a more competitive level. Outside of dragon boating, Norman is also an avid cyclist and spends his spare time participating in various long-distance bike tours. His dream is to be able to ride on different century tours throughout the country. Norman is also into hiking, skiing, playing softball, and many other outdoor activities. Norman looks forward to celebrating many more victories with his hardworking teammates and adding to his medal collection.
Linda Zhu started dragon boating during 2007. She soon fell in love with the sport and became one of the co-founders of the Azumi Dragons. Thus far, she has competed at the New York race but is excited about competing in various national and international races in the coming years. As the Director of Recruitment and Social Events, Linda seeks to further expand the team and to better collaborate with all of the other teams in the dragon boating community. In addition to dragon boating, Linda is an active runner that is currently training for her first marathon, and she also enjoys tennis and all other types of outdoor sports. Linda also loves traveling and one of her post-retirement goals is to travel the world.
